Muso Announces New Country Partnership

We are pleased to announce a landmark partnership with the Zambian Ministry of Health aimed at improving maternal health, child survival rates, and advancing towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC) across Zambia. This announcement follows the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Muso and the Ministry of Health, solidifying their commitment to improving healthcare accessibility and outcomes for all Zambian citizens.

Over the past several years, the government of Zambia has prioritized healthcare for all, with a

strong emphasis on reducing maternal and child mortality rates. In selecting Muso as a partner,

Zambia seeks to leverage Muso’s proven expertise and successful methodologies, honed through

implementations and program innovations in Mali and Côte d'Ivoire. Communities in which Muso

has served over the past 15 years have achieved the largest and fastest improvements in child

survival ever documented. Urban communities decreased under-five mortality from 154/1000 to

7/1000 in seven years. Remote rural communities decreased under-five mortality from 148/1000 to

55/1000, despite the onset of armed conflict.

This new partnership will focus on comprehensive health system strengthening by embedding

Muso’s technical assistance experts within key departments of the Ministry of Health. These

experts will work collaboratively on policy change, equitable healthcare system design, and the

implementation of innovative health solutions. Muso’s TA leads will develop and deliver training

for Community Health Workers and supervisors, integrating digital tools for efficient healthcare

delivery, and facilitating practical reforms to enhance healthcare accessibility and effectiveness.

This collaboration between Muso and Zambia’s Ministry of Health aims to ensure that health

system improvements are sustainable, equitable and aligned with Zambia's strategic vision for

achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

"We are blessed as in Zambia to have a partner like Muso, which has demonstrated expertise and achieved significant advancements in health system strengthening, particularly in addressing maternal and infant mortality," said the Honorable Minister, Sylvia Masebo, MP.

"Community participation in government programs has a transformative impact and it is necessary to place communities at the forefront of this action. Failure to do so effectively excludes the very individuals these programs intend to support. We look forward to our collaboration with Muso, who places communities and patients at the heart of its initiatives,” she added.

“We are proud and honored to partner with the Zambian Ministry of Health and build from its remarkable record in achieving universal health coverage,” said Dr. Christian Rusangwa, Director of Technical Assistance.

“Through our combined efforts and expertise, we aim to make substantial strides towards reducing maternal and child mortality and contribute to strengthening the Zambian health system to serve all the people of Zambia without leaving anyone behind.”
